St. Augustine’s Scouts to start again

On Monday evening 11th November 2012, leaders are to meet to bring about the revival of St. Augustine’s Scout Troop.

“Petone is justly proud of being the birthplace of Scouting in New Zealand. The first Scout troop (Te Punis) in the Dominion was born in the home (now disappeared) of Mr. Pointon, on the Esplanade, until 1912. The troop start just twelve months or so after the Brotherhood of Boy Scouts in England.

A little later S.t. Augustine’s Scout Troop was started in 1916 by the Rev. G. B. Stephenson in connection with the St. Augustine Church with seventy boys.
