Cossgrove Scout and Leader training

Another great weekend with  20 scouts completing their Cossgrove Course and 16 leaders doing the Practical Skills course. 1975114_288484511317500_518073093_nCan you spot the St. Augustine leaders (Mark, Nicolle, and Fill) and our Scout (Michael) . The number of leaders attending, outnumbering our Scouts was actually fantastic as it points to excellent well trained leaders for the future, and to the fact that all the other Scouts have alrady attended the course prior to the Jamboree. DSC02204 The weather was unusually warm for Brookfield which made it challenging in the assessment phase to pretend they were dealing with high winds, rain and hypothermia. Leaders ran the bases and the Valley Rovers did the cooking.

Out Chris ran the knots base showing the Scouts and Leaders knots, bends, and hitches, such as the reef knots, half hitches, bowline, sheep shank, and clove hitch. 1454674_288483174650967_1199710370_n

He was very grateful for Ray’s knotting board as a teaching aid.

There were many other bases too, such as Axe Safety, First Aid, Lashings, Maps and Compasses, fire lighting, and others.

With all Scouts camps there is nothing as important as sitting around the fire!
